I live in the S.F. Bay Area. there is so much stuff that goes on here that is Multi-Cultural. However I'd especially love to hear what experience has CHANGED you! Did you have an African Drum group come to your school? What did they do? Asian Music?
I attended the Society for Improvised Music Conference last December in Santa Cruz. For me one of the highlights was a Korean Musician playing an electronically wired historic instrument-amazing. Hearing Yo Yo-Ma and Silk Road in Chicago at Grant Park was mind blowing experience. He presented a program of music from around the world from all the Silk Road Countries. Each performer was like a rock star. What they shared was the energy and commitment to the music that connected to the audience. This has inspired me to do the work I'm currently doing...dealing with expressing yourself through your body! It doesn't matter the scale, the instrument, or what sound you are making...it's about YOU! BG
